Is your site suitable?
The suitability of your site depends on three main factors.
Is there enough wind?
For an installation to be viable, your site needs a minimum average wind speed of 4.7m/s (metres per second). We can check the wind speed for your property using the Carbon Trust’s Wind Yield Estimator.
Positioning the turbine
The presence of trees or tall buildings nearby could affect the positioning of your turbine and we look to site away from trees and buildings over 7 metres in height. In suitable locations, we need to get clear exposure from the prevailing wind which, in the UK is from the SW and NE direction.
Where is the connection point?
Your turbine needs to be positioned a maximum of 100m away from the meter to ensure that there is no energy lost in the cable run.
We can check these aspects without visiting your site by conducting a desk-top survey, reviewing mapping and satellite images of the area.
We will also consider special restrictions such as nearby listed buildings, Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) or your site being in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and take them into account when preparing the planning application. In the majority of cases, we would expect to obtain permission successfully.
If your site is suitable for a wind turbine, you can expect to save an average of £500 per year from the electricity generated. If your site can support two turbines, these savings could increase. Our turbine is compatible with single, dual and three phase electricity supplies.
